At this blended members meeting (both face-to-face and online), hosted by Cushman & Wakefield Vietnam, “Adapting to an AI-Driven World of Work”, we were joined by the following panel:
- Gary Malcolm, Managing Partner – LHH Vietnam
- Colin Blackwell, Founder of Enablecode and Board Director of Hyperion FinTech
- Ivan Botha, Head of Delivery – LHH Vietnam
The Blended Members Meeting focused on the challenges and opportunities presented by the increasing adoption of AI in businesses. Participants shared mixed perspectives on the time savings and efficiency gains from AI implementation. A meeting attendee reported significant time savings across their workflows, from design to reporting and analytics, other meeting attendee noted that the time saved is often reinvested into training, strategy, and testing the growing number of AI tools available.
A key theme that emerged was the role of AI in maintaining competitive advantage. A meeting attendee emphasized that adopting AI is essential for future-proofing their businesses, as failing to do so could lead to losing their competitive edge. However, the challenges of implementing AI across organizations, both large and small, were also acknowledged, with participants noting the significant time and effort required for training, testing, and integration.
The meeting also delved into the broader implications of AI’s rapid advancement, including the concept of the “singularity” – the point at which AI surpasses human intelligence. Colin, the featured speaker, shared his concerns about the potential impact on the job market, where AI might outperform humans in many tasks, leading to significant job losses. He emphasized the need for companies to adapt their management practices and organizational structures to effectively leverage AI, including revisiting job descriptions, performance measures, and control mechanisms.
In terms of practical recommendations, the participants discussed the importance of starting with basic AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft’s offerings, and gradually integrating them into business operations. Establishing clear AI usage policies and guidelines, providing employee training and support, and continuously reviewing and updating organizational structures were also highlighted as key steps for companies to take in order to stay competitive and adapt to the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
